Special Event for Crime Readers: In Conversation with Jo Middleton - Why do we love crime fiction?

As a Living Knowledge Network partner library, we are delighted to be hosting a taster of the exhibition Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery opening at the British Library in October 2026.

If you take part in an Inspire Crime Café or crime fiction reading group, or are just a keen borrower of crime fiction from your local library, we’d like your help in creating audio content to support the exhibition.

Join bestselling crime writer Jo Middleton for a lively recorded discussion exploring what makes crime fiction so irresistible. From the Golden Age of Detective Fiction to today's bestselling detectives, we'll share favourite books, memorable sleuths and the stories that first made us fall in love with mysteries, with a few intriguing objects from the world of crime fiction to help get the conversation started.

Whether you're a lifelong mystery fan or just starting out on your crime journey, come along and share your recommendations, favourite detectives and the books that have stayed with you. You'll be helping create a unique collection of local voices celebrating our love of crime fiction.

Workshops are FREE and open to adult library users from Mansfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Sutton-in-Ashfield and Hucknall.
