Hummingbirds finds a new home!
Inspire Youth Arts has celebrated the donation of the Hummingbirds artwork to the Paediatric Diabetes Clinic at King’s Mill Hospital, marking the end of a project that began back in 2023.
Created by young people living with diabetes and their families, the artwork was developed through an Inspire Youth Arts project that brought together people from across Nottinghamshire living with diabetes, their families, and paper and textile artist Sarah Manton.
In collaboration with the doctors and nurses at Clinic 11, everyone involved in the original project was invited to an unveiling on Tuesday 18 August 2026, where we got to see the artwork in its new home.
It was wonderful to see Hummingbirds displayed in the clinic, where it can now continue to inspire, encourage and connect with other young people and families living with diabetes.
Feedback gathered from participants at the end of the original 2023 project captured what made the experience so special:
“We really enjoyed being part of this project, learning new skills and contributing to a beautiful piece of artwork. Being in an environment where not only the subject of diabetes, but all aspects surrounding living with the condition could be openly discussed and understood like any day-to-day conversation was a comforting, and rare opportunity, but overall (as in life), this wasn’t the important issue. We were there to make art and enjoy each other’s company.”
