Retford Library Refurbishment updates

On Saturday 7 December 2019, Retford Library closed its doors to allow work to start on an extensive refurbishment project, and remains closed due to the current coronavirus pandemic.

More details of the refurbishment, along with alternative library provision can be found here.

As the renovation work progresses we'll post updates and photos below to give you a peek behind the scenes as the new library spaces take shape.

Shelves emptied, books boxed...we're ready!

16 December 2019

The team at the library have been working hard to get everything safely packed away and ready for the renovation work to begin! It took staff just over a week to empty all the shelves, including lots of workroom stationery and equipment as most of the three storey building needed to be cleared.

The Local Heritage room upstairs required LOTS of bubble wrap along with expertise from the local history librarians to keep it all safe. A removal company then took this all over to Carlton-in-Lindrick and Sutton-in-Ashfield library for safe keeping. B

The scaffolding is up!

4 February 2020

The furniture has all been removed now and everything stripped back. The library was handed over to ARC Property Services on the 6 January 2020 for the renovation work to begin. They have now stripped out most of the interior and installed temporary power pending the refit. Scaffolding has been installed inside and outside the building ready for roofing works to begin.

Customers have been enjoying using the Saturday mobile library service (based at Churchgate car park every Saturday, 9.30am-12.30pm), it's been very busy and people are liking the new van! And although customers have been missing Retford it's good to see that they're still finding us and heading to other libraries in the area (Bircotes, Carlton-in-Lindrick, Ollerton, Tuxford and the temporary library in Worksop).
