This year's shortlist for the Women's Prize for Fiction comprises four British and two American writers, including two Booker Prize winners (Evaristo and Mantel) and the six novels' settings range from ancient Greece through Tudor England to contemporary London and New York.

2020 will see the 25th 'Bessie' statuette being awarded to the latest winner of this prestigious prize (formerly known as The Bailey's Prize and the Orange Prize).

The organisers are also inviting readers to read all 24 previous winners in order to choose a 'winner of winners'. The shortlisted books are:
