The I Am A Storyteller podcast discusses the outcomes from Inspire’s community arts project; I Am A Storyteller. During the series, Annie Warren talks to an artist or artists from the project, and also members of the Inspire team, in a bid to share valuable insights and learning gained from the project.
In Episode 1 of I Am A Storyteller, host Annie Warren is in conversation with Laura Mabbutt and Beccy Dye two storytellers on the project.
Laura Mabbutt is a multidisciplinary artist working with a fusion of traditional craft, digital media, and interactive experiences. Her practice blends handmade techniques with contemporary technology, exploring materials, processes, and participation in creative and accessible ways through interactive experiences.
For I Am A Storyteller as well as delivering workshops for adults and children in libraries, Laura was commissioned to work with the Oasis Community Centre in Worksop - a place where people can meet and feel welcomed, valued and supported – to co-create new pieces of artwork with a mixed adult group.
Beccy Dye is a storyteller, podcaster and game-maker. She works with people of all ages helping them to tell their stories, develop games and to have fun with words. Beccy was commissioned to work with Blidworth memory group, a place that provides a social setting for people living with dementia, their carers and anyone interested in meeting and chatting over a warm drink to see what services and supports are available.
In Episode 2 of I Am A Storyteller, host Annie Warren is in conversation with Andy Barrett a storyteller on the project. Andy Barrett is a Nottingham based community storyteller, playwright, and academic. With Excavate he has worked with thousands of local people to explore their histories, culture, stories, and identity producing site-specific community plays, touring shows, films, and a series of audio walks (including Sherwood Voices with Inspire). Andy worked with the residents of Bowbrigde Care home in Newark throughout this project.
In Episode 3 of I Am A Storyteller, host Annie Warren is in conversation with Nicky Rafferty a storyteller on the project.
Nicky Rafferty is an experienced and versatile storyteller who loves the challenge and variety of bringing storytelling to different audiences and contexts. Her recent projects include delivering the outreach element for the ‘Restoration of the Leaves of Southwell Project’ at Southwell Minster and the ‘Reawakening St Mary Magdalene’ in Newark, through storytelling with a variety of community groups, schools and care homes.
Nicky worked with the students of Bracken Hill School in Kirkby in Ashfield throughout this project.
